Inspired by architect Frank Duffy’s book “Work and the City”, Stewart Brand came up with the concept of Pace Layers, a mental model explaining how complex human systems learn and evolve while they nevertheless stay stable and resilient. This gives us an incredibly rich lens to look at that other complex human system: the commercial enterprise.
